A newly established, young volunteer team have recently launched a new campaign to ‘Rebuild the Alco’ – in the hope of getting Mountaineer back in steam!
The restoration of the ‘Alco’ will largely take place at Glan y Pwll workshops, which requires some restoration work itself before work on the engine can take place. The railway intends to get things started by investing in a new, insulated roof on the workshop building as well as other upgrades to the site.
Once this has been completed, the team will look to start the process of restoring the ‘Alco’ to its former glory, which has been out of traffic since February, 2006.
Supporting the ‘Rebuilding the Alco’ fund is easy as there are fundraising initiatives on the horizon.
The first of which will be a project launch event; ‘Moving Mountaineer’, which takes place on Saturday, 27th of August, between 07:00 – 08:45
Up to 20 willing volunteers will attempt to pull the Alco from Boston Lodge to Platform 1 at Porthmadog Harbour Station.
The challenge will be to guess how long it will take the volunteers to pull the Alco across the Cob… with the closest to the actual time declared the winner, receiving a set of 5 pieces of Alco merchandise, including cap, badge, sweatshirt, hoodie, print of Alco and sister loco at Minffordd, polo shirt and t-shirt.
The cost of each ticket is £12.65, with all proceeds going towards the ‘Rebuild the Alco’ fund held by the Ffestiniog Railway Society.
If you miss out, you can still purchase the merchandise separately, with all proceeds going towards the fund.
A ‘Rebuilding the Alco’ stand will be setup at Harbour Station on the Saturday, following the pull across the Cob, with information leaflets and merchandise for sale.
Further details and donation links for the ‘Moving Mountaineer’ project launch event are available here.
Mae tîm gwirfoddol ifanc sydd newydd ei sefydlu wedi lansio ymgyrch newydd yn ddiweddar i ‘Ailadeiladu’r Alco’ – yn y gobaith o gael ‘Mountaineer’ nôl mewn stêm!
Bydd y gwaith adfer ar yr ‘Alco’ yn digwydd i raddau helaeth yng ngweithdai Glan y Pwll, sy’n angen gwaith adfer ei hun, cyn y gellir gychwyn gwaith ar yr injan. Mae’r rheilffordd yn bwriadu dechrau drwy fuddsoddi mewn tô newydd wedi’i insiwleiddio ar gweithdy Glan y Pwll, yn ogystal ag gwelliannau eraill i’r safle.
Unwaith y bydd hyn wedi’i gwblhau, bydd y tîm yn ceisio dechrau’r broses o adfer yr ‘Alco’ i’w hen ogoniant, sydd wedi bod allan o draffig ers mis Chwefror, 2006.
Mae cefnogi cronfa ‘Ailadeiladu’r Alco’ yn hawdd gan fod mentrau codi arian ar y gorwel.
Y cyntaf fydd digwyddiad lansio’r prosiect; ‘Moving Mountaineer’, a gynhelir ar Ddydd Sadwrn, 27ain o Awst, rhwng 07:00 – 08:45
Bydd hyd at 20 o wirfoddolwyr parod yn ceisio tynnu’r ‘Alco’ o Boston Lodge i Platfform 1 yng Ngorsaf Harbwr Porthmadog.
Yr her fydd dyfalu faint o amser y bydd yn ei gymryd i’r gwirfoddolwyr dynnu’r ‘Alco’ ar draws y Cob… gyda’r agosaf at yr amser gwirioneddol yn enillydd, ac yn derbyn set o 5 nwyddau Alco, gan gynnwys cap, bathodyn, crys chwys, hwdi , print o Alco a chwaer loco ym Minffordd, crys polo a chrys-t.
Cost pob tocyn yw £12.65, gyda’r holl elw yn mynd tuag at gronfa ‘Ailadeiladu’r Alco’ sydd gan Gymdeithas Rheilffordd Ffestiniog.
Os byddwch yn colli allan, gallwch dal brynu’r nwyddau ar wahân, gyda’r holl elw yn mynd tuag at y gronfa.
Bydd stondin ‘Ailadeiladu’r Alco’ yn cael ei osod yng Ngorsaf yr Harbwr ar y Dydd Sadwrn, yn dilyn y tynnu ar draws y Cob, gyda thaflenni gwybodaeth a nwyddau ar werth.
Mae rhagor o fanylion a dolenni rhoddion ar gyfer digwyddiad lansio prosiect ‘Moving Mountaineer’ ar gael yma.
