This journey, starting at Caernarfon, is perfect for those looking for a shorter trip into the Eryri/Snowdonia National Park.

Great For Families: A school holiday special, with a later start and shorter journey length, this is a great train for families staying around Caernarfon and surrounding area. An additional mid afternoon train on Tuesdays and Thursdays allow you to fit more into your holiday.

Your Locomotive: It is nice to be able to offer something a little different from the normal Welsh Highland trains and this train will normally be hauled by Lynton & Barnstaple replica (and the General Manager’s favourite!), Lyd. A shorter train with standard class corridor carriages including a refreshment carriage gives this train a delightful, ‘branchline’ feel, more like the original trains that used this line.

What will you see: Beginning at our modern award-winning station at Caernarfon; which overlooks the historic Caernarfon Castle and the newly renovated local artesan quarter of Cei Llechi. You can grab a light snack from Caffi De Winton before boarding the train. The train ambles from the coast into the mountains with fantastic views across to Anglesey and further on, towards Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) itself. The landscape and scenery frequently changes as the train journeys into Eryri/Snowdonia, through farmland, woodlands and meadows beside the Afon/River Gwyrfai, providing plenty of opportunities to capture stunning photographs of the surrounding mountains as the train twists and turns along the valley side.Upon arrival at Rhyd Ddu, the train will remain at the station for up to 30 minutes, providing plenty of time to stretch your legs, enjoy the scenery, and admire the locomotive itself before returning to Caernarfon.

On Train Stewards: Our friendly staff will pass through the train telling you information about what you can see from the carriage windows and selling light refreshments from buffet car counter. Guide books will also be for sale.

Make sure you visit the station gift shop on your return for a memento of your day or a present for those at home.
