Now that the February half-term break has passed, we are running two trains a day, four days a week until 26th March.
These trains will run from Harbour Station, Porthmadog to Hafod y Llyn and return, providing the opportunity to enjoy a scenic, steam-hauled 10-mile round trip across reclaimed pastures, passing ancient sea cliffs and the meandering Glaslyn river along the way.
As the train steams away from Porthmadog, you cross the harbour bridge and over the main road. You then wind your way through the streets and houses of Porthmadog, over a crossing with the Cambrian Coast main line and head out into the wide valley of the Afon Glaslyn. The train makes its way along an embankment built in the early 1800s and across green pastures reclaimed from the sea.
Crossing the Afon Glaslyn at Pont Croesor, the train steams towards the encircling mountains, before swinging left and heading into the narrowing reaches of the Glaslyn Valley. Following the crossing of two more rivers, the train arrives at remote Hafod y Llyn, nestling at the foot of wooded slopes which rise above the train. **
Once the locomotive has uncoupled and run round to the other end of the train, your journey resumes in the opposite direction, giving the opportunity to look for things that you did not see on the way to Hafod y Lyn…
So, why not come and enjoy a stunning, scenic ride in comfortable heated carriages – complete with our ‘at-your-seat’ buffet service.
Trains leave Porthmadog at 11:15 and 14:15 on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The round trip takes around 1¼ hours, with the train due back into Harbour Station at 12:30 and 15:30…
We look forward to welcoming you on board..!
** Please Note – due to there being extremely limited access at Hafod y Llyn, passengers can only join / leave the train at Porthmadog.
