Visitors to the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways (FfWHR) are now able to take their very own guide along on the journey with them, on their phone, in the form of the FfWHR Explore App.
The App has been created as part of the Railway’s Interpretation and Boston Lodge Project – thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, National Lottery players, the Ffestiniog Railway Society and the FfWHR Trust.
The FfWHR Explore App has been designed with everyone’s enjoyment in mind, providing descriptive and historic information about stops and points of interest along the line, marking your route as you go with a locomotive icon on the map.
Each railway also has three ’Out the Window’ games, where the whole family can spot things seen along the route, including a tank of rubber ducks as you travel through the forest between Penrhyn and Tan-y-Bwlch stations. Along with looking out for the Wagyu Cows – a herd of black cattle between Dinas and Waunfawr – trees and landmarks, there are also things to spot about the railway and the people who work on it.
The FfWHR Visitor Experience Manager, Stephen Greig said:
“We want our visitors to enjoy a chat and the wonderful
scenery. The app has been designed by our NLHF Project team to enhance the journey and to be a conversation
starter.
“Our On-Train staff and volunteers are always more than happy to tell you about our wonderful locations and railway – and may even help you spot that family of rubber ducks and the toy alligator who joined them last season!”
The app can easily be downloaded when visitors arrive for their journey, as every railway station along our lines has free Wi-Fi access. QR codes are available at check-in to take you straight to the download site.
The free ‘FfWHR Explore’ bilingual Welsh and English app is now available to download from either the Apple Store
or Google Play Store.
The FfWHR Interpretation and Boston Lodge Project is due to open for tours this summer.
Bydd ymwelwyr â Rheilffyrdd Ffestiniog ac Eryri bellach yn gallu cymryd tywysydd eu hunain ar hyd y daith gyda nhw, ar eu ffôn, drwy’r Ap ‘FfWHR Explore’.
Mae’r Ap wedi’i greu fel rhan o brosiect Dehongliad Rheilffordd a Boston Lodge – diolch i Gronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri Genedlaethol, chwaraewyr y Loteri Genedlaethol, Cymdeithas Rheilffordd Ffestiniog ac Ymddiriedolaeth RhFfE.
Mae Ap ‘FfWHR Explore’ wedi’i ddylunio gyda mwynhad pawb mewn golwg, gan ddarparu gwybodaeth ddisgrifiadol a hanesyddol am arosfannau a phwyntiau o ddiddordeb ar hyd y llinell, gan nodi’ch llwybr wrth fynd ymlaen gydag eicon locomotif ar y map.
Mae gan bob rheilffordd hefyd dair gêm ‘Out the Window’, lle gall y teulu cyfan sylwi ar bethau a welir ar hyd y llwybr, gan gynnwys tanc o hwyaid rwber wrth i chi deithio drwy’r goedwig rhwng gorsafoedd Penrhyn a Than-y-Bwlch. Ynghyd â chadw llygad am y Gwartheg Wagyu – gyr o wartheg du rhwng Dinas a Waunfawr – coed a thirnodau, mae yna hefyd bethau i’w gweld am y rheilffordd a’r bobl sy’n gweithio arni.
Dywedodd Rheolwr Profiad Ymwelwyr RhFfE, Stephen Greig:
“Rydym am i’n hymwelwyr fwynhau sgwrs a’r golygfeydd bendigedig. Mae’r ap wedi’i ddylunio gan ein tîm Prosiect CTLG i gyfoethogi’r daith ac i ddechrau sgwrs.
“Mae ein staff Ar y Trên a’n gwirfoddolwyr bob amser yn fwy na pharod i sgwrsio am ein lleoliadau gwych a’n rheilffordd – a gallent hyd yn oed eich helpu i weld y teulu hwnnw o hwyaid rwber a’r aligator tegan a ymunodd â nhw y tymor diwethaf!”
Gellir lawrlwytho’r ap yn hawdd pan fydd ymwelwyr yn cyrraedd ar gyfer eu taith, gan fod gan bob gorsaf reilffordd ar hyd ein llinellau fynediad Wi-Fi am ddim. Mae codau QR ar gael wrth gofrestru i fynd â chi’n syth i’r safle lawrlwytho.
Mae’r ap dwyieithog Cymraeg ac Saesneg, rhad ac am ddim ‘FfWHR Explore’ bellach ar gael i’w lawrlwytho o naill ai’r Apple Store neu Android Playstore.
Mae disgwyl i brosiect Dehongliad Rheilffordd a Boston Lodge agor ar gyfer teithiau tywys yr haf hwn. Nodiadau i Olygyddion
