‘Top Trumps’ Launch
We are very excited to be launching our brand-new Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways ‘Top Trumps’ at Caernarfon Station over the Easter weekend, 30th March to 1st April. In addition to our normal train services, there will be footplate rides, children’s activities, Easter eggs and a special ‘Top Trumps’ quiz in the station. Entrance is free and the station houses both a large gift shop and Caffi de Winton, selling a range of freshly prepared snacks to eat in or take-away.
The ‘Top Trumps’ cards will be available in all our shops and online here.
We are also eagerly awaiting the first batch of a brand new Eryri/Snowdonia edition of ‘Monopoly’ which we hope will be with us in time for the Easter holidays. This will be one of the first bilingual editions of ‘Monopoly’ and we are pleased to be both on the board and on the cover.
Footplate Rides
We will have footplate rides on a Quarry Hunslet engine at both Caernarfon and Porthmadog during the Easter weekend. Enjoy a ride through the station area, standing beside the driver on one of these historic ‘little’ steam locos, which all used to work in one of North Wales’ many slate quarries:

30th March-1st April – 10:00-16:00 – HUGH NAPIER

A New Locomotive for 2024
The Ffestiniog Railway is very proud to welcome into regular service at Easter, its brand new, award-winning locomotive, JAMES SPOONER. This ‘Double Fairlie’ locomotive has been built at the railway’s own workshops, to a patent that was designed specifically for this line back in the mid-1800s. In fact, our Boston Lodge Works can boast that it has built these locomotives in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries – and we have a working example from each one.
This beautiful locomotive, painted and finished its Victorian-era Ffestiniog livery, was named at the end of October 2023 and is now looking forward to its first year hauling regular passenger services.
Just want to watch the trains?
Our station cafés at Porthmadog, Tan-y-Bwlch and Caernarfon are great places to watch the world go by – and, more importantly, the trains.
Spooner’s Café-Bar at Harbour Station serves coffee, breakfast, lunches and snacks daily, plus evening meals most nights. Their Sunday Carvery is very popular and is busy throughout the year. The bar has a good selection of real ales, including some from local micro-breweries, and there is a wide choice of other drinks. The beer terrace has great views of the railway and beyond.
The Tea Room at Tan-y-Bwlch Station, set in the woodland of the National Park, is great for families – with a playground for small children, which includes a super wooden play-train ‘Sandra’, and nature trails in the woods to explore. The covered outside area welcomes dogs too, so is a great place to spend time, enjoy some home-cooked food and do some trainspotting.
Caffi De Winton in Caernarfon Station is a small café on two levels, looking out towards the famous Castle and the harbour. They serve a small selection of freshly prepared snacks and some lovely locally roasted coffee.
Beth bynnag yr hoffech ei wneud y Pasg hwn, mae gan Reilffyrdd Ffestiniog ac Eryri rywbeth i bawb ei fwynhau…

Locomotif Newydd ar gyfer 2024
Mae Rheilffordd Ffestiniog yn falch iawn o groesawu i wasanaeth rheolaidd dros y Pasg, ei locomotif newydd sbon, sydd wedi ennill gwobrau, JAMES SPOONER. Mae’r locomotif ‘Double Fairlie’ hwn wedi’i adeiladu yng ngweithdai’r rheilffordd ei hun, i batent a ddyluniwyd yn benodol ar gyfer y llinell hon yn ôl yng nghanol y 1800au. Yn wir, gall ein Boston Lodge Works frolio ei fod wedi adeiladu’r locomotifau hyn yn y 19eg, 20fed a’r 21ain ganrif – ac mae gennym ni enghraifft weithredol o bob un.
Cafodd y locomotif hardd hwn, a baentiwyd a gorffennodd ei lifrai Ffestiniog o oes Fictoria, ei enwi ar ddiwedd mis Hydref 2023 ac mae bellach yn edrych ymlaen at ei flwyddyn gyntaf yn cludo gwasanaethau teithwyr rheolaidd.
Dim ond eisiau gwylio’r trenau?

Mae gan y teras cwrw olygfeydd gwych o’r rheilffordd a thu hwnt.
