Today, we are celebrating another milestone in our railway’s long history… the 70th Anniversary of the takeover of the Ffestiniog Railway by a partnership of Alan Pegler as Chairman, a new Company Board and volunteers in the Ffestiniog Railway Society.
On the 24th of June 1954, the old Ffestiniog Railway board made way for Alan Pegler and his associates. The FR Society started to mobilise its pioneer members, who had eagerly been awaiting this historic event, and they have worked in close partnership with the company ever since.
Later that year, a group of young people made their way through the brambles towards the old engine shed at Boston Lodge, opening the doors and embarking on an adventure to restore the Ffestiniog Railway.
The rest, as they say, is history..!
To mark this special occasion, we have filmed a commemorative video to showcase what the Ffestiniog Railway means to our volunteers, members and staff.
Additionally, over the course of the following weeks, we will be sharing a series of further videos where the railway family share their stories and tell us what the railway means to them.
We remain forever grateful to the early society members and those volunteers who opened the doors to the old engine shed at Boston Lodge and set out on the monumental challenge of restoring the Ffestiniog Railway.
The railway we all know and love exists today thanks to their outstanding efforts.
Its therefore fitting that this July, Boston Lodge will open its doors to the public as we launch our new Boston Lodge Guided Tours, made possible as part of the National Lottery Heritage Fund project.
Further information on these tours can be found here.
Heddiw, rydym yn dathlu carreg filltir arall yn hanes hir ein rheilffordd… 70 mlynedd ers meddiannu Rheilffordd Ffestiniog gan bartneriaeth o Alan Pegler yn Gadeirydd, Bwrdd Cwmni newydd a gwirfoddolwyr Cymdeithas Rheilffordd Ffestiniog.
Ar y 24ain o Fehefin 1954, gwnaeth hen fwrdd Rheilffordd Ffestiniog le i Alan Pegler a’i gymdeithion. Dechreuodd Cymdeithas RhFf ysgogi ei haelodau arloesol, a oedd wedi bod yn aros yn eiddgar am y digwyddiad hanesyddol hwn, ac maent wedi gweithio mewn partneriaeth agos â’r cwmni ers hynny.
Yn ddiweddarach y flwyddyn honno, gwnaeth criw o bobl ifanc eu ffordd drwy’r mieri i gyfeiriad yr hen sied injans yn Boston Lodge, gan agor y drysau a chychwyn ar antur i adfer Rheilffordd Ffestiniog.
Mae’r gweddill, fel maen nhw’n dweud, yn hanes ..!
I nodi’r achlysur arbennig hwn, rydym wedi ffilmio fideo coffaol i ddangos beth mae Rheilffordd Ffestiniog yn ei olygu i’n gwirfoddolwyr, aelodau a staff.
Yn ogystal, dros yr wythnosau nesaf, byddwn yn rhannu cyfres o fideos pellach lle bydd teulu’r rheilffordd yn rhannu eu straeon ac yn dweud wrthym beth mae’r rheilffordd yn ei olygu iddyn nhw.
Rydym yn parhau i fod yn ddiolchgar i aelodau cynnar y gymdeithas a’r gwirfoddolwyr hynny a agorodd y drysau i’r hen sied injans yn Boston Lodge ac a gychwynnodd ar yr her aruthrol o adfer Rheilffordd Ffestiniog.
Mae’r rheilffordd yr ydym i gyd yn ei hadnabod ac yn ei charu yn bodoli heddiw diolch i’w hymdrechion rhagorol.
Mae’n addas felly y bod Boston Lodge yn agor ei ddrysau i’r cyhoedd ym mis Gorffennaf eleni wrth i ni lansio ein Teithiau Tywys Boston Lodge newydd, a wnaed yn bosibl fel rhan o brosiect Cronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri Genedlaethol.
Mae rhagor o wybodaeth am y teithiau hyn ar gael yma.
