The latest addition to the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways’ carriage fleet has entered service thanks to a generous donation from our friends Bob and Jan Bloodworth that funded the entire build.
Built at the F&WHR’s workshops at Boston Lodge – the oldest working railway workshop in the world – the new carriage makes use of the maximum available loading gauge of the narrow and winding Ffestiniog Railway to provide more comfortable and spacious accommodation for our passengers.
F&WHR General Manager Paul Lewin comments: “The building of carriage 808 is part of our ongoing programme to construct a number of these spacious ‘Super Saloons’. The new carriage will go straight into service providing an immediate benefit to our customers. The levels of comfort afforded by the larger carriages on the Welsh Highland are now available to passengers on the Ffestiniog, with heating and double glazing in every carriage, together with bigger windows and increased space and legroom.”
Mae’r ychwanegiad diweddaraf i fflyd cerbydau Rheilffordd Ffestiniog ac Eryri wedi ei gwblhau diolch i rodd hael gan ein cyfeillion Bob a Jan Bloodworth a ariannodd y gwaith adeiladu cyfan.
Wedi’i adeiladu yng ngweithdai RhFfE yn Boston Lodge – y gweithdy rheilffordd gweithredol hynaf yn y byd – mae’r cerbyd newydd yn defnyddio’r mesurydd llwytho mwyaf sydd ar gael ar Reilffordd gul a throellog Ffestiniog i ddarparu llety mwy cyfforddus a helaeth i’n teithwyr.
Meddai Paul Lewin, Rheolwr Cyffredinol RhFfE: “Mae adeiladu cerbyd 808 yn rhan o’n rhaglen barhaus i adeiladu nifer o’r ‘Super Saloons’ hyn. Bydd y cerbyd newydd yn mynd yn syth i wasanaeth gan roi budd uniongyrchol i’n cwsmeriaid. Mae lefelau cyfforddus a roddir gan y cerbydau mwy ar Rheilffordd Eryri bellach ar gael i deithwyr ar Rheilffordd Ffestiniog, gyda gwres a gwydr dwbl ym mhob cerbyd, ynghyd â ffenestri mwy a mwy o le i’r coesau.”
