Earlier this month we were delighted to welcome the whole of Ysgol Maenofferen infants and junior school to the station in Blaenau Ffestiniog for a train journey down to Tan-y-Bwlch Station.
The trip was organised as a big ‘Thank you’ for the local school’s part in the naming ceremony of the FFWHR’s newest double Fairlie, ‘James Spooner’, last autumn, where the school choir sang for invited guests despite a very wet day!
The FfWHR’s General Manager Paul Lewin, said: “Having Ysgol Maenofferen take part in our event made it a very special occasion and we wanted to show our gratitude.”
Over one hundred happy faces waved from the train as it left Blaenau Ffestiniog, behind loco, ‘Blanche’ for a picnic lunch at Tan-y- Bwlch station.
Teacher Mrs Jones said: “The journey went far too quickly, we were singing all the way in our carriage.”
Headteacher Aled Williams, added: “The children have been very excited about the trip and a massive thank you to the FfWHR for making it possible. It is good to be part of event and activities on the Railway.”
Pupil, Mason Fretwell said he learns a lot about the railway from books and from the Railway’s interpretation boards: “I saw three other trains this morning, Lyd, Harlech Castell at Ddualt and Merddin Emrys. It has been a great day.”
A vote of confidence also came from year 5 girls, Sara, Megan and Beca who said the school trip had been, “great and amazing!”
Families in Blaenau Ffestiniog and surrounding area will also have the chance to enjoy a train ride to Tan-y-Bwlch, as well as footplate rides, at the next community fun day on July 28th – more information here.
Yn gynharach y mis hwn (Dydd Gwener, 12fed o Orffennaf) roedd Rheilffyrdd Ffestiniog ac Eryri (RhFfE) yn falch iawn o groesawu holl ysgol babanod ac iau Ysgol Maenofferen i’r orsaf ym Mlaenau Ffestiniog ar daith trên i lawr i Orsaf Tan-y-Bwlch.
Trefnwyd y daith fel ‘Diolch mawr’ am ran yr ysgol leol yn seremoni enwi Fairlie dwbl diweddaraf y RhFfE, ‘James Spooner’, Hydref diwethaf, lle bu côr yr ysgol yn canu i wahoddedigion er gwaethaf diwrnod gwlyb iawn!
Dywedodd Paul Lewin, Rheolwr Cyffredinol RhFfE: “Roedd cael Ysgol Maenofferen i gymryd rhan yn ein digwyddiad yn ei wneud yn achlysur arbennig iawn ac roeddem am ddangos ein diolchgarwch.”
Roedd dros gant o wynebau hapus yn chwifio oddi ar y trên wrth iddo adael Blaenau Ffestiniog, y tu ôl i loco, ‘Blanche’ i gael cinio picnic yng ngorsaf Tan-y-Bwlch.
Dywedodd yr athrawes Mrs Jones: “Aeth y daith yn llawer rhy gyflym, roedden ni’n canu’r holl ffordd yn ein cerbyd.”
Ychwanegodd y Pennaeth Aled Williams: “Mae’r plant wedi bod yn gyffrous iawn am y daith a diolch yn fawr iawn I RhFfE am ei wneud yn bosibl. Mae’n dda bod yn rhan o ddigwyddiadau a gweithgareddau ar y Rheilffordd.”
Dywedodd disgybl, Mason Fretwell ei fod yn dysgu llawer am y rheilffordd o lyfrau ac o fyrddau dehongli’r Rheilffordd: “Gwelais dri thrên arall y bore yma, sef Lyd, Castell Harlech yn Ddualt a Merddin Emrys. Mae wedi bod yn ddiwrnod gwych.”
Daeth canmol hefyd gan ferched blwyddyn 5, Sara, Megan a Beca a ddywedodd fod y daith ysgol wedi bod yn “wych a rhyfeddol!”
Bydd teuluoedd ym Mlaenau Ffestiniog a’r cyffiniau hefyd yn cael y cyfle i fwynhau taith trên i Dan-y-Bwlch, yn ogystal â reidiau troed plât, yn y diwrnod hwyl cymunedol nesaf ar Orffennaf 28ain.
